Halle Dorko named Independence Athlete of the Week

Independence senior Halle Dorko averaged 15 points and five rebounds in leading the Blue Devils to three straight wins during the week of Jan. 12. For her efforts, Dorko was named Independence Athlete of the Week.

Dorko suffered an injury just before halftime of the Blue Devils’ 44-39 win over Wickliffe on Saturday. At that point she became an assistant coach and made a valuable suggestion that led to a 3-pointer for a teammate.

Her efforts during the week also led to recognition as WKYC/Channel 3’s Player of the Week.

Hare began covering high school sports for the Lake County News Herald in 1997. Hare attended Willoughby South High School through the middle of his senior year, then graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton in 1986.
