Fast Break with the Cardinals

MATT CRAVEN, JUNIOR

Q: What are your goals this season?
A: Win a state championship. We hope to make a run. I think recently we are as close as we have been.

Q: What does it mean to play “Mentor basketball”?
A: Playing as hard as you can, pressing all the time, boxing out, constantly on the attack, shoot more free throws than they do. The bottom line is the other team should never see a team play as hard as we do.

Q: What is your most memorable moment as a Cardinal?
A: Last year and this year, being at Mentor, it has just changed my game and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Q: What Cardinal did you enjoy watching play or base your game after?
A: Joey Zaugg. He shoots the lights out.

Q: What is something that people don’t know about you?
A: Transferred to Mentor from Lake Catholic my sophomore year. …. My teammates call me the Cravenator. I guess that’s something different.

RICK VALERI, JUNIOR

Q: What are your goals this season?
A: To work hard, bust in the offseason and perform in the winter.

Q: What does it mean to play “Mentor basketball”?
A: Quick, fast, hard-working and have to shoot the 3.

Q: What is your most memorable moment as a Cardinal?
A: My freshman year when the team came back from Columbus after they won the state title.

Q: What Cardinal did you enjoy watching play or base your game after?
A: Joey Zaugg. He works hard, shoots the ball well and defends.

Q: What is something that people don’t know about you?
A: I really like volunteering and helping people out in the community.
