Beachwood’s Max Babbush seeks soccer ball donations for reverse mission trip to Honduras

In 1982, Jeff Babbush experienced a life-changing moment that he passed on to his sons Max and Sam.

Babbush, a student at Gilmour Academy, was unable to play in one of the Lancers’ games due to its 9:00 p.m. start conflicting with one of the Jewish High Holidays, which meant he could not travel until after sundown.

Gilmour coach Tihomir Teisl made arrangements to have Babbush picked up after sunset so he could join his teammates for the game.

“Our dad never forgot this and told us that it was (a) life-changing experience for him and his beliefs,” said Max Babbush, a junior soccer player at Beachwood.

Max and Sam, a Beachwood eighth grader, both have developed a passion for soccer and this summer they’ll join coach Teisl on his annual mission trip to Honduras.

“We thought we would add to the trip and see what we can do to make a difference as well and what we can achieve by taking soccer balls with us for the children in Honduras,” Max Babbush said. “We are excited about an opportunity we've been given to contribute significantly to the many needs of the Honduran people.”

Max and Sam have set a goal of taking 500 soccer balls with them on the trip to distribute to the Honduran people. They are soliciting donations of gently used soccer balls or financial donations to offset the cost of purchasing new ones.

Ball donations can be made at Force-Sports, 26555 Richmond Road, Bedford Heights, Ohio 44146. Click here to make a financial donation.

All donations are requested prior to June 1, 2015.
