Bean, Crawford, Sirna named Ward’s Lawn Care & Landscape Co. Players of the Week

Cardinal’s Kaitlin Bean, Independence’s Victoria Sirna and Kirtland’s Maddie Crawford have been named Ward’s Lawn Care & Landscape Co. Players of the Week for the week ending Sept. 21.

Kaitlin Bean
Senior
Cardinal High School

In four matches, Bean was 39-for-41 in serving attempts with 12 aces and 28 points total. She also had 34 digs (3.8 per set), was 77-for-82 in hitting (94-percent) and had 30 kills (3.3 per set).

“Kaitlin is an instrumental player on our team who has time and time again played with confidence and a genuine eye for the game where she can read the opponent's offense and defense and score points for us,” said Cardinal coach Lisa Shirkey. “Kaitlin scored 14 points against Fairport on Tuesday. She also scored points 22 through 25 in set two and scored points 24 and 25 in set three to end the match and help improve our record to 4-0 in the CVC Valley Division.”

Bean, an Ashland University commitment, also helped the Huskies win the Chagrin Invitational with wins over Twinsburg and Chagrin Falls. Both teams defeated the Huskies earlier this season.

Maddie Crawford
Senior
Kirtland High School

Kirtland was 2-1 last week with wins over Chagrin Valley Conference rivals Berkshire and Fairport Harding. The loss was to Windham in a non-conference match.

In 11 sets, Crawford recorded 25 blocks, five digs, 38 kills and posted a .691 kill ratio.

“This year she continues to progress and her stats reflect that,” said Kirtland coach Bob Schenosky. “While we move the ball around quite a bit between our hitters, she has had a great year and especially a great week.”

On the year, Crawford has 156 kills (3.54 per set with a kill ration of .639) and 94 blocks (2.14).

Victoria Sirna
Senior
Independence High School

Sirna led the Blue Devils to wins over Wickliffe and Beachwood and also was instrumental in Independence winning the Renee Roche Invitational on Saturday. She posted a total of 24 kills during the week with 10 coming against Wickliffe. She also had two blocks against Wickliffe and five aces against Beachwood.

“Victoria is a consistent player who has done a nice job of getting touches at the net and finding the floor offensively from the middle,” said Independence coach Megan Osysko. “Victoria is a raw athlete that has done a nice job of finding the floor as a middle (hitter). She has a strong attack that can power through most blocks put on her.”

This season, Sirna has posted 64 kills, 62 service points, 20 aces, a team-high 17 blocks and 24 digs.
