Beres scores career low as Kirtland beats Harvey

Kirtland’s top two golfers came through in a big way on Wednesday in the Hornets’ 165-210 win over Harvey at Painesville Country Club.

Michael Schnur shot a match-low 36 while Brian Beres carded a career low 37. Par on the Front 9 is 36.

“I am proud of Michael and Brian for the way they led our team today,” said Kirtland coach Greg Cosimi. “Michael shot par and Brian was 1 over. That's an impressive 73 for our first two golfers.”

Adam Mueller shot a 44 and Daniel Heimsoth and Jack Dever both finished with 48. Michael Knezevic was one stroke behind at 49.

“This was a course that none of our guys have played, and they attacked it,” Cosimi said. “We're happy with 165. We will strive to improve, but it's a score that will make us competitive against most any of our opponents.”

Beres’ performance stood out, especially on the challenging course.

“Brian shot his career personal best today,” Cosimi said. “It was the best 9-hole round he has put together in his three years of varsity golf at Kirtland. He played the par threes in 1 under par. That's really something at Painesville Country Club.”

Ryan Frey led Harvey with a 48.
