Kirtland exploded for five second half goals in Thursday’s 6-1 non-conference win over visiting Chardon.
Stjepan Mijic-Barisic and Jared Ianiro both scored two goals and Jeremy Lunka and Ante Bevanda each scored once. Mijic-Barisic recorded three assists while Ianiro and Bevanda both had one.
“Our offense works very hard at all times even when they don't get the ball,” Ianiro said. “They're constantly making great runs, which makes it way easier for me and the other midfielders to find them.”
Ianiro credited Kirtland’s speed advantage for the second half production against the Hilltoppers.
“At half we knew that they were a very physical team and we knew we needed to use that to our advantage,” he said. “We started playing quicker and gained more control of the game.”
Danny Jahnke recorded three saves in goal and now has 12 on the season.
Kirtland improved to 6-1 overall while Chardon dropped to 2-5-1.
The Hornets travel to Lutheran West on Monday.
