Beachwood’s volleyball team split a pair of conference matches to close out the second to last week of the regular season.
The Bison, who add to their school record for wins in a season with every victory, defeated Wickliffe on Tuesday, 3-2, then came up short to Cuyahoga Heights on Wednesday, 3-1.
“We’re still trying to figure things out,” said Beachwood first year coach Sarah Schoenhagen. “(Wednesday) was a rough game for us. Something just fell apart.”
Tamarea Townes led the Bison with 11 kills, seven digs and four blocks in the 23-25, 28-26, 25-17, 17-25, 16-14 win over Wickliffe.
“Tamarea, when she has a game where she’s on, she’s on,” Schoenhagen said. “We just have to get her more into the offense so she can get on a roll.”
Allonda Watkins contributed with eight kills, seven digs, eight blocks and five aces.
The Bison got off to a slow start against Cuyahoga Heights and never recovered as the Redskins rolled to the 25-15, 20-25, 25-15, 25-13 win.
“In the second game we played great,” Schoenhagen said. “We had energy and got back into it. We were down 5 to 10 and we called a time out. After that we came out and played great. It was just a rollercoaster ride again.”
Valisha Watkins continued to shine as she posted 27 kills and 20 digs after her 15 kill, 14 dig performance against Wickliffe.
“She played good,” Schoenhagen said. “One of things we’re still trying to do is get her is to be more aggressive. Even with 27 kills she could have pushed 40 if she had been more aggressive and believed that and got after it and had that crush everything kind of attitude.”
Cameron Leathers-Clayborne had 49 assists against Cuyahoga Heights.
The Redskins are at Kirtland on Monday, at Richmond Heights on Tuesday and close out the regular season with Senior Night against Independence on Thursday.
