Independence sits atop the Chagrin Valley Conference Chagrin Division standings after a pair of wins over league rivals Perry and Wickliffe.
The Blue Devils, who are 3-0 overall, defeated Perry, 3-1, on Tuesday and Wickliffe, 3-0, on Thursday.
“It’s good starting out in our conference 3-0,” said Independence coach Megan Osysko. “Perry has always been one of top teams in the conference and having them as our first home match of the year was definitely going to be a test for us to see how our, we like to call them our young and restless team, how they would match up.”
Through three games, junior Maura Collins leads the Blue Devils with 42 kills, 11 serving aces and 39 service points.
“Maura led us in kills against Perry,” Osysko said. “She took on a big role that day.”
Freshman Kalli Screptock is second on the team with 30 kills and sophomore Lexi Prokopius leads the Blue Devils with four blocks. Freshman Maddy Bilinovic has posted a team-high 45 digs and sophomore Katie May leads the team with 100 assists.
“Overall, they were good team wins,” Osysko said. “It’s a good way to start the year off. Hopefully we’ll keep working and improving every day.”
The Blue Devils host West Geauga on Tuesday then travel to Chagrin Falls on Thursday.
