Mentor ran into a very good team and a little bit of bad baseball luck on April 12 in the NOC Valley opener at Strongsville.
The Cardinals were held to a pair of hits and an early miscue gave the Mustangs all the cushion they needed in a 6-1 victory over Mentor.
Michael Hritz had an RBI in the first inning to give the Cardinals (5-2, 0-1 NOC) the initial lead, but that was all the offense Mentor could generate.
"We hit the ball hard, just right at them," Mentor coach Jeff Haase said. "We made one mistake and it cost us. We couldn't get anything going.
"Tomorrow is another day."
Mentor started with five straight wins this spring, but has lost two straight. The Cardinal can break that mini-slide and move to 2-0 at home when they host league foe Medina on April 14.
Tuesday's game against Medina was postponed due to weather and rescheduled for April 23.
