Daubenmire, Dolan, Royster named Ward’s Lawn Care & Landscape Co. Players of the Week

Willoughby South junior Erynn Daubenmire, Perry sophomore Claire Dolan and Beachwood sophomore Taylor Royster have been named Ward’s Lawn Care & Landscape Co., Players of the Week for the week ending Dec. 6.

Daubenmire, nominated by South coach Erin Ertter, scored 26 points, pulled down 24 rebounds and had two steals, four assists and four blocks in a win over Garfield Heights and losses to Cleveland Heights and Kirtland.

“Erynn is one of the most powerful rebounders on the team and has a nice looking shot from the outside as well,” Ertter said. “She is always positive and works hard on a daily basis.”

Daubenmire’s presence in the paint isn’t limited to swiping the glass. She is a solid scorer from down low but also has the ability to hit from the outside.

She is equally as strong in the classroom.

“Although I have never had Erynn in class I know based on her grades that she works just as hard in the classroom as she does on the court,” Ertter said. “She loves math but I know she has a secret liking for English that she gets from her mom.”

Through six games, Daubenmire leads the Rebels with 9.4 points per contest.

Dolan averaged 16 points per game in three games last week.

She scored 19 against Conneaut, which included five 3-pointers, 13 against Riverside and 16 against Beachwood. She drained a total of 12 3-pointers during the week and had the game-winning shot against Beachwood, which came with 7.2 seconds left on the clock.

“Claire had a great week shooting the ball, helping our team to go 2-1 overall,” said Perry coach Brindi Kandel. “Her teammates are doing a great job of screening for her and finding her within the offense and she's stepping up and knocking shots down.”

Through four games, Dolan is seventh in the Chagrin Valley Conference with 13.8 points per game.

Royster dropped 24 points in a 42-35 loss to Trinity then scored 25 in a win over Wickliffe and 29 in the loss to Perry.

“Taylor is probably, in my opinion, one of the best scorers in the state of Ohio,” said Beachwood coach Dwayne Morrow. “She can get to the rim, she can shoot the trey and she has a really nice midrange game. She’s in a situation now where a lot of people are playing a box-and-one or triangle-and-two trying to keep her out of scoring position.”

Through six games, Royster has averaged 23.7 points per contest, good for second in the CVC.

She scored a season-high 32 points in Beachwood’s season opener against VASJ.

“I’ve been watching her play basketball since she was three years old,” Morrow said. “Even though she’s only 15 years old, she’s a heck of a basketball player and has been playing a long time. Basketball-wise, she’s an old soul. I call her the female Paul Pierce. She doesn’t look fast but she can get her shot anytime she needs too and she’s a big shot hitter. She can score whether it’s zone or man to man and she does a great job recognizing defenses.”
