Kirtland sophomore Konnor Duncan turned in a strong performance at the Perry Pin City Invitational over the weekend.
Duncan, who entered the event with a 6-5 record, finished 2-1 in pool wrestling on Friday with his only loss coming to Madison’s Jeff Brichford, who finished third in the championship bracket.
His two wins came via a major decision and pin.
On Saturday, Duncan opened the championship bracket with a pair of losses but closed out the tournament with a 9-5 win over Edgewood’s Andrew Hull to finish seventh at 120 pounds.
“I'm very happy with my placement because I've improved a lot since competing at Pin City last year,” Duncan said. “Closing with a win was important for me, but I also went onto the mat looking to have fun with my last match. I think I accomplished both successfully.”
Gus Mormino (145) finished in 10th place with a 3-3 record. Kevin Dages (220) finished 11th with three straight wins on Saturday and Jonathan Miller (170) and Spencer McLelland (195) both finished in 12th place in their respective weight classes.
Carter Williamson (106), Brandon Hepper (132), Brayden Adkins (138), Anthony Blasini (152), Jeff Kusar (182) and Kalid Alabsi (285) also competed for the Hornets.
Kirtland travels to Berkshire on Tuesday for a tri with the Badgers and Independence.
