JOEY ZAUGG, SENIOR
Q: What are your goals this season?
A: I want to win state as a team like everyone else. I want to develop as a leader. I need to be more vocal. I want to be a leader like Justin Fritts or Jeff Foreman was.
Q: What does it mean to play “Mentor basketball”?
A: Fast pace, always pressing, getting the ball up and down the court. Playing the tempo we want. Getting the shots we want. Controlling the defensive end of the court. If we don’t do those things, then we aren’t playing Mentor basketball.
Q: What is your most memorable moment as a Cardinal?
A: The district semis last year we beat Glenville and we got after it really well so that was probably the most memorable.
Q: What Cardinal did you enjoy watching play or base your game after?
A: Jeff Forman. I saw him develop as a player and become the man and he did that times 10.
Q: What is something that people don’t know about you?
A: I like action sports – biking, dirt bikes. That’s my favorite stuff to do.

Q: What are your goals this season?
A: We want to be able to win the rest of our games this season and we thing we can do that. We can have a great month of February and get ready for the postseason in March. As long as everyone is talking and communicating, that is the key for us.
Q: What does it mean to play “Mentor basketball”?
A: Hard work. We come into practice and we know we have to work harder than every team in the state. That’s how we can stay at an elite level.
Q: What is your most memorable moment as a Cardinal?
A: Last year our home game against Medina was a must win for us and we came out with so much energy and dominated and so that game really sticks out for me.
Q: What Cardinal did you enjoy watching play or base your game after?
A: Jeff Foreman. That was my freshman year they won state and I practiced with them. I watched his leadership grow so much that year and helped lead to the title.
Q: What is something that people don’t know about you?
A: I have 100 percent free throw percentage at The Q. Getting the opportunity to shoot after Cavs games, I have never missed a free throw there.

Q: What are your goals this season?
A: As a team we want to win the state, and individually, I just want to be the best there is. I was contacted by Duke on Monday, which is huge, but I have to keep working hard.
Q: What does it mean to play “Mentor basketball”?
A: Just playing hard, shooting well, going inside and playing hard.
Q: What is your most memorable moment as a Cardinal?
A: It is kind of hard to beat the state championship. The game against New Hope in Tennessee was my breakout game I had a double-double and since then it has been a different story so that was special.
Q: What Cardinal did you enjoy watching play or base your game after?
A: You have all the great guards who have been here, with great work ethics. My brother Caleb had a great work ethic, doing all the little things after practice nobody sees. So, I guess it would be my brother.
Q: What is something that people don’t know about you?
A: In middle school I was pretty good at the theater and the acting. I was really into the theater then.
