Geneva gets by Cardinal

MIDDLEFIELD—Danny Knippenberg carded a 44 and Tyler Carroll shot a 45 but Cardinal came up on the short end of a 179-186 decision to Geneva in a dual match at Grandview Golf Course on Thursday.

"I am disappointed we didn't come away with a victory today,” said Cardinal coach Greg McCandless. “I thought we had a good shot especially considering Geneva is new to the conference and hasn't had experience playing our home course, Grandview. Grandview has some nuances to it that we should have been able to take advantage of, but we didn't.”

Grandview’s nuances were magnified thanks to the rain showers that preceded the match, which created some soggy conditions.

"We know how to play the holes and the correct locations to play to, but as a team, we didn't execute the shots today,” McCandless said. “And when you find yourself in the wrong places at Grandview, your score is going to show it. We just need to play better, especially at home."

Joe Callison finished with a 47 and Virginia Travers closed out Cardinal’s scoring with a 50.

"Senior Joe Callison had a pretty good day today,” McCandless said. “He has had a rough start to the season, but hopefully today will help build his confidence and he will continue to improve."

Geneva got a 41 from Eric Doerge, a 42 from Eddie Hughes and Daniel Argo and Mitch Cupp came in with a 45 and 51, respectively.
