Independence head coach Karl Schuld knows he has two of the most talented and consistent high school golfers in Sophia Trombetta and Lyndsay Blum. He also knows he has quite a bit of depth and that showed in a 170-233 win over West Geauga at Seneca Hills on Thursday.
Trombetta shot a 1-under par 34 and Blum finished with a 38. Maddie Harper came through with a 45.
“The big jump was Maddie Harper,” Schuld said. “She was hitting the ball down the middle and driving very consistent today. She had one putt that lipped out on her but she had a much better showing today. She was very happy with how she ended up. She was hitting the ball extremely well off the tee.”
Madeline Mindzora carded a 53 while Ginger Crist finished with a 54 and Christina Tommer came in with a 57.
“It was a good day,” Schuld said. “I think we’re starting to put together some more consistent scores. What’s really going to help is we have practice tomorrow. That’s really going to be our first practice of the season. The kids will work on chipping and putting. What the kids have done so far really without much time to stop and think and talk about some strategies is pretty amazing.”
