Kirtland had little trouble winning its fifth straight sectional championship.
The third-seeded Hornets defeated Fuchs Mizrachi, 9-0, on Thursday to improve to 13-3-2 on the year and advanced to play at No. 1 Gilmour Academy on Monday.
Sophomore Vikki Carriero scored three goals in the win.
“It felt great to able to play with this group of seniors. They’re so talented,” Carriero said. “Everyone played well.”
Allie Donohue and Gabby Culotta assisted on two of Carriero’s goals and Culotta also scored one of her own.
Grace Powers also recorded a hat trick for the Hornets, who improved to 13-3-2 on the year, and Deanna Ponzani twice found the back of the net.
Carriero credited her team’s precision passing for creating so many scoring opportunities.
“I made runs in front of the goal and received the crosses from my teammates,” she said. “We were just passing the ball very well and making good runs.”
Kirtland improved to 13-3-2 on the year.
Monday’s game at Gilmour will be Kirtland’s fifth straight appearance in the Division III University Heights District semifinals. The Lancers ended the Hornets’ season in 2013 and 2014 by identical 1-0 scores. Hawken beat Kirtland, 1-0, in 2012 and Laurel defeated the Hornets, 2-0, in 2011.
