Kirtland’s volleyball team got off to a slow start in Thursday’s Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division match at Harvey but once the Hornets found their groove they went on to sweep the Red Raiders, 3-0.
The Hornets, who improved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in league play, won 25-21, 25-15, 25-11.
“We started slow the first game but with that I thought Harvey did a great job,” said Kirtland coach Bob Schenosky. “They just wouldn't let a ball hit the ground. Their libero did a phenomenal job for them. We started to improve each game and by the time we got to the third game we started to put it all together. The team did well.”
Lauren Snyder led the Hornets with 14 service points and five aces. Krista Robejsek posted a team-high 13 kills and Anna Shuppe hammered home 11 balls.
“Krista hit very well in the front row,” Schenosky said. “Anna Shuppe again was great in the front row. Certainly she’s been the most consistent from the start of the season to tonight.”
Emily Nerderman contributed with 33 assists.
“We were able to play the full team and everybody did a nice job,” Schenosky said. “That bodes well as we go into a busy week next week with three matches.”
Kirtland opens the week with a league game at Cuyahoga Heights on Tuesday.
