Michael Hritz pitched 5 2/3 innings and had a pair of hits, driving in a run to lead Mentor to a 5-3 win over host Medina on April 15.
Hritz scattered seven hits in his start to earn the win. Hritz also went 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
Derek Donnett pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn the save for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals improved to 6-2 on the season and won their first NOC Valley game this spring.
"It was a solid win today. Timely hitting by Hritz and he gave a great effort on the mound," Mentor coach Jeff Haase said.
"We took advantage of mistakes and put pressure on heir defense. We took a huge step today as a team today rebounding after a tough loss (Monday at Strongsville). We have to take games one day at a time and keep building."
Andrew Hurst drove in two runs, and Dominic Dengel, Tommy Noll, Nathan Birtley and Rob Mealey played key roles in the win for Mentor.
The Cards scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull away for the victory.
