Each competition for the Cardinal golf team is another opportunity for the Huskies to improve their game.
That has been the approach the team has taken all season and on Monday the team shot its lowest 18-hole score of the year at the Chagrin Valley Conference post-season tournament at Windmill Lakes in Ravenna.
“We set a goal this year,” said Cardinal coach Glenn Travers. “We didn't reach the goal but the goal we set earlier in the season was not to go over this number and we never did. We’ve gone down each and every time. It's good for us. These kids are just getting better every week. For as young as they are, that's all I can ask for.”
Cardinal finished the tournament with a total of 436 strokes.
Jonathan Heredos led the way for the Huskies with a 102. Virginia Travers shot a 106 and Kevin Hammitt carded a 113. Anthony Sinito finished with a 115 and Daniel Heredos and Mitchell Samas both shot 120.
After Tuesday’s home match against Wickliffe the Huskies will turn their attention to next week’s sectional tournaments.
The boys will play at Quail Hollow while Travers will play in the Division II girls tournament at Punderson.
The Huskies hope to use Tuesday’s match to hit another goal the team set for itself.
“The goal for the season for a 9-hole match is to break 200,” Travers said. “We did it in practice but this is pretty much our last shot at that.”
