Independence’s golf team continues to make improvement and on Tuesday the Blue Devils shot a season-low score in a 179-191 win over Wickliffe.
“I’m happy we got to the 170s finally,” said Independence coach Mark Echstenkamper. “Hopefully we continue to get better and maybe by the time we get to the postseason tournament we’ll be in good shape. We’re moving in the right direction at this point in the year. I’m very happy with that. It was at Pine Ridge also, which is very tough, and the guys played pretty well.”
Carson Bianco and Andrew Teribery shot a match-low 42 to tie for medalist honors.
“This was Bianco’s best match of the year by far,” Echstenkamper said. “He was in the fairway consistently and his short game was on. He really played well. Teribery had a great round going but in the last several holes he had a couple double (bogeys). He would have been in the 30s. He’s playing better, which is good to see.”
Tyler Sagi and Ryan Zygmunt carded a 47 and 48, respectively, to close out the scoring for the Blue Devils, who improved to 3-2 overall.
“Those four guys have been scoring consistently for us all year,” Echstenkamper said. “It was a good win for us.”
