Jen Wisniewski scored two goals and Halle Dorko and Julia Gutermuth each netted one to lead Independence to a 4-1 win over Lutheran West on Tuesday.
The win was the ninth of the season for the Blue Devils, who improved to 9-5-1 overall.
“I told the team before the game that I wanted our ninth win tonight,” said Independence coach Bryan Less. “They delivered.”
The nine wins are the most for the Blue Devils since 2011 when they won 10 games. Independence has the chance to tie that mark when they host Wickliffe on Thursday.
Wisniewski, Dorko, Gutermuth and Amanda Pucella all assisted on goals and Krista DeFini recorded four saves against the Longhorns.
With just one regular season game remaining before the post-season, Less likes where his team is at and believes the Blue Devils are positioned for a successful run in the tournament.
“This was a decent team we played tonight,” Less said. “We didn’t play great. We missed a ton of chances and we still had an easy 4-1 victory. The girls know they can play better and they expect to. I love their attitude.”
