COLUMBUS–Kirtland's Brendan Williamson survived the first day of the 2016 OHSAA state wrestling tournament at the Jerome Schottenstein Center.
Williamson, a senior, opened the tournament with a 5-0 loss to Genoa Area freshman Julian Sanchez in the Division III 113 pound preliminary round. He opened the consolation round with an 11-6 win over London Madison Plains junior Ryan Fulwider. He'll wrestle the loser of the quarterfinals bout between top-seed Graham Shuler of Casstown Miami East, who was seventh in the state last year, and Applecreek Waynedale senior Christian Wellman, who defeated Williamson at last week's district meet.
