Lake County Baseball Club to host free coaches clinic

The Lake County Baseball Club, an association of the county high schools’ baseball coaches, is sponsoring a baseball clinic for community baseball coaches of all ages on Saturday, February 14th at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Wellness Center on the campus of Lake Erie College.

The clinic will run from 8:30 AM until 12:00 noon with registration beginning at 8:00.

Featured coaches and their topics will be Derek Bolling, Fairport “Catching”; Jeff Haase, Mentor “Hitting”; Steve Norris, South” Fielding”; Luke Smrdel, Kirtland, “Pitching”; and Lake Erie College Head Coach Brian McGee, “Indoor/Outdoor Fielding Drills.”

Featured speaker will be Jamie Hart of Lake Health’s orthopedic “Throw Right” staff, who will speak on the prevention and care of arm injuries. All those attending will receive a baseball drill packet.

There is no clinic fee but the club will accept $5.00 donations. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. For further information contact John Grdina at 440-941-4595 or Dave Eberly at 440-570-4198.

Steve Hare is the Chagrin Valley Conference's Sports Information Director. He also created and publishes OhioVarsity.com, an online publication dedicated to providing hyperlocal coverage to area high school athletic programs. Hare began covering high school sports for the Lake County News Herald in 1997. Hare attended Willoughby South High School through the middle of his senior year, then graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton in 1986. He played football, wrestled and was an all-Geauga county baseball player (1986). He lives in Chardon with his wife Paulette and their children.
