Leo’s double-double paces Rangers in win at Ravenna

Freshman Destiny Leo stole the show in North’s 62-31 non-conference win at Ravenna on Saturday.

Leo scored 25 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, blocked four shots and also recorded seven assists and two steals in the win for the Rangers, who improved to 17-4 overall and bounced back from a two-point loss to Mayfield on Wednesday.

“The girls were hungry to get back on the court and that showed with our last couple of days of prep,” said North coach Paul Force. “Good team win and everyone contributed and played within their role. Obviously, Destiny had the numbers but basketball isn't about individual numbers, it's about effort, team enthusiasm and execution on offense and defense and I'm proud of how all 12 girls contributed today.”

Samantha Pirosko pitched in with 18 points and seven rebounds. Ally Lako scored five points with three assists and Anaunda Lyons contributed with four points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Leos’ double-double was the second of her rookie season with the Rangers.

She scored 18 of her 25 points in the first half as the Rangers built a 32-14 halftime lead.

“I am pretty satisfied with my performance and my team’s,” Leo said. “We knew how and what to do against Ravenna and we worked hard to get the job done.”

The Rangers, who drew the fourth seed in the upcoming Division I Perry District Tournament, close out the regular season on Monday at Perry.

The Pirates are 20-1 on the year and ranked fourth in the latest Ohio Division II state girls’ basketball poll.

“Finishing the regular season with a state-ranked opponent in their gym is an awesome opportunity for us,” Force said. “They're 20-1 for a reason and the girls look forward to the challenge they present; definitely a good game in our eyes to get us ready for the tournament season.”
