Mentor opens post-season against Shaker Heights

The chase to Columbus begins on May 13 for the Mentor Cardinals as Coach Jeff Haase's crew will open postseason play as the No. 2 seed in the Division I Euclid District.

Mentor (12-11) will host either No. 8 seed Shaker Heights in a sectional final to begin defense of its 2014 district title.

Mentor defeated Shaker Heights, 9-5, on May 9 as part of a doubleheader sweep. Haase has options to send to the mound with a deep and balanced rotation, but it should be junior Matt Eiswerth that gets the call. Michael Hritz, Ryan Kanetsky, Nick Smith and Nick Forsythe have all pitched well this spring for the Cardinals and would be most likely to see the mound in the postseason.

If Mentor wins the sectional championship, the Cardinals would advance to the district semis at Euclid on May 19.

On Friday, May 15, Mentor is scheduled to travel to Victory Park to face perennial D-I juggernaut St. Edward. The Eagles are consistently one of the top teams in Northeast Ohio and part of a rugged nonconference schedule for Mentor.
