The 2016 Ohio Varsity Senior Shootout presented by ScoreStream.com will take place on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at Ursuline College’s Seidman Gymnasium.The high school basketball all-star event is an official fundraiser for The Wounded Warrior Project. Each of the four teams, two boys and two girls, will wear camouflage jerseys representing one branch of the Armed Forces.
All proceeds from the event and all monies raised by the participants benefit The Wounded Warrior Project.
The Air Force All-Stars, sponsored by Big Leaf Basketball and coached by Kirtland’s Nick Gallo, will play the Marines All-Stars, sponsored by IrishIllustrated.com and coached by Berkshire’s Keith Clapacs, in the boys’ game at 5:00 p.m.
Immediately following the boys’ game, the Army All-Stars, sponsored by Ward’s Lawn Care & Landscape Co. and coached by Chardon’s Cullen Harris, will play the Navy All-Stars, sponsored by Athletic Performance Training Center and coached by Chagrin Falls’ Brittany Anderson.
The Senior Shootout includes eight players who were named All-Ohioans and another 22 who earned All-Northeast Lakes District honors.
In addition to their success on the court, the Senior Shootout participants also have excelled in the classroom. Among the 41 players selected to play in the all-star event, 11 carry a grade point average between 3.0 – 3.49, 18 have recorded GPAs of 3.5 – 3.9 and nine carry a GPA of 4.0 or higher.
Berkshire and Kirtland High School cheerleaders have been selected to represent the Air Force and Marines All-Stars, respectively, and Empower Sports will perform at halftime of the boys’ game. Empower Sports is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to providing sports and exercise programs for children and adults with various physical and cognitive disabilities. We value diversity, relationships, service, and empathy.
Berkshire and Ledgemont youth players will play at halftime of the girls’ contest.
OhioVarsity.com Player of the Year awards will be presented in between the first quarter of both games. Boys Player of the Year finalists include Doug Burks (Willoughby South), Connor Fitzgerald (Lake Catholic), Andrew Robinson (Mentor), Jarett Smetana (Berkshire) and Corey Tull (Chagrin Falls). The girls Player of the Year finalists are Lindsey Mayle (Geneva), Morgan Ondo (Fairport Harding), Alexa Pasquale (Mayfield), Taylor Somodji (Kirtland) and Hallie Zumack (Independence).
Presale tickets for the Senior Shootout currently are on sale for $8.00. Tickets at the gate will be $10. All tickets allow admission to both games.
