Tromba advances to the DIII district wrestling semifinals

Villa Angela-St. Joseph junior Joey Tromba advanced to the district semifinals at 132 pounds with a pair of wins on March 6 at the Garfield Heights District tournament.

Tromba defeated Karl Sarver from Jackson-Milton and then outlasted Garrett Hall from Chippewa, 4-2, to advance to the district semifinals. Hall was a sectional champ and is 41-12 on the season. Tromba improved to 37-8.

VASJ’s Daniel Cervenik lost his first match, but won his first consolation match at 170 to remain alive in the tournament. Cervenik will face Paul Dies from Akron Manchester on March 7. The Vikings’ Kevin Mullin fell out of the tournament at 182 with a pair of losses. Mullin lost to undefeated Kollin Moore from Norwayne in the opening match.

The state tournament is held in Columbus at the Schottenstein Center from March 12-14.
