VASJ game moved to Mayfield

Villa Angela-St. Joseph athletic director Nate Zavorek has announced the Week 10 matchup between the Vikings and rival Cleveland Central Catholic will be played at Mayfield High School s Wildcat Park.

The critical game between North Coast League White Division rivals, originally scheduled to played at Sparky DiBiasio Stadium in Euclid, will still be played Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.

Because of weather conditions and uncertainty of how well the grass surface will take to the weather, we felt we wanted to give our student-athletes the chance to perform under the best conditions for what will be the most important game thus far this season, Zavorek said.

VASJ has clinched at least a share of the NCL White championship, but can win the league outright with a victory over CCC. Of equal or greater importance, the Vikings (7-2) are currently No. 8 in Division VI, Region 19 and according to joeeitel.com, control their postseason destiny and would get into the playoffs with a win over the Ironmen (5-4).

Wildcat Stadium is the centerpiece of the Wildcat Stadium Project that provided upgrades to several of the athletic facilities on the Mayfield campus. The stadium opened in the 2012 season – sports a new Astroturf surface with the trademark Wildcat logo at the center. Also at the stadium, the track has been resurfaced, new home and visitor bleachers have been erected and a new press box, ticket counter, concession stand and ADA-compliant restrooms are in place. Both sets of bleachers are ramped for handicapped accessibility and the home bleachers have a separate section with individual stadium seats.
