The Villa Angela-St. Joseph Vikings boys and girls track teams will begin postseason competition on Wednesday, May 20, at the Division III Independence District meet.
Qualifiers at the district meet move on to the D-III Navarre Fairless Regional on May 27 and May 29.
Among the boys competing at the district meet for VASJ are Derrick Thuesday, Erin Williams, Laron Jones, Gaston Dowdley, Tre'shon Walker-Smith, Andre George, Francois Murray, Alex Williams, Jake Tucci, Tommy Lombardo, Chris Boykin, Jacob Stauffer and Adam Stauffer. The sprints, the relay teams and the Stauffer brothers in the throwing events are expected to do particularly well for the Vikings.
On the girls side, competitors include Alison Sukys, Toni Beuck, Jordan Walker, Angela Zamora, Taylor Parker, Mia Ivey, Shirley Ken Every, Dena Pullem, Lora Stewart, Taylor Molson, Kynadi Byers and Chelsea Appling. Byers is a standout freshman who excels in the 100M and relays, while Sukys, Walker and Beuck are experienced and consistent runners for Coach Dan LaRocco. The VASJ relays are always a threat to advance to the regional meet.
"I am just glad to see the kids get a chance to compete," LaRocco said.
The D-III Independence District will be held May 20 and conclude May 22 at Independence High School.
