VASJ’s Tromba knocked out of D3 state tournament

The quest for a state championship ended on March 12 for Villa Angela-St. Joseph junior Joey Tromba, but the talented 132-pounder has plenty to build on for next year after a strong 2015 campaign.

Tromba lost in the opening round of the Division III state wrestling tournament at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus and fell in the consolation round to end his season.

Tromba lost, 6-3, to Devon Cannon of Genoa Area in his first match on Thursday. Tromba fell short in the consolation round, 2-0, to Jake Guitierrez of Springfield Central Catholic.

Tromba, who placed third at the ultra-competitive Garfield Heights District tournament, finished his season with a record of 40-10.
