VASJ senior Mariah McGhee commits to play hoops at Alderson Broaddus

Villa Angela-St. Joseph senior Mariah McGhee announced on Twitter on May 2 she has committed to play college basketball at Alderson Broaddus in West Virginia.

McGhee, a 5-foot-4 guard, averaged 10.9 points this season after moving from the wing position where she exceled as a junior to playing point guard in her senior season.

“I think I’ll fit in really well there not only because they run the same system, but they love to play defense and score on turnovers,” McGhee told “I think it’s just a great fit for me.”
McGhee leaves as one of a handful or girls basketball players in school history to eclipse 1,000 career points. She also helped the Vikings win Division IV sectional championships each of the past two seasons.

She was selected to the Division IV Northeast Lakes All-District team.

“Mariah was the one that stepped up for the sake of the team,” VASJ coach Tony Redding told “It gave us a scoring edge at the position and on a personal note helped Mariah learned another part of the game.”

VASJ finished the regular season with a 19-3 record before losing to Windham in the district semifinals.

McGhee received offers from Johnson C. Smith (NC) and Tennessee State (TN) before her selection of Alderson Broaddus.
