Villa Angela-St. Joseph star sophomore Jerry Higgins had himself quite a night on Sept. 25 in a game vs. visiting Gilmour.
And it only took Higgins 13 minutes and 18 seconds to do it.
Higgins ran for three scores and caught a pair of touchdowns to stake the Vikings to an insurmountable lead in the first half as VASJ rolled to a 48-7 victory at Sparky DiBiasio Stadium.
Higgins now has 11 touchdowns in five games despite the fact the Vikings were shutout in Week 3 and Week 4. He scored on a 32-yard TD run to open the game – VASJ’s first points since Week 2 – and followed with a pair of touchdown catches to give VASJ (3-2) a 21-0 lead at the end of one quarter. He had a pair of touchdown runs early in the second quarter, and by the time he found the end zone for a fifth time, only 13:18 had elapsed off the clock and the Vikings were comfortably ahead, 35-0.
Howard Hill scored on an 80-yard TD run before half after Gilmour (0-5) got on the board on a touchown pass from Connor Lesko to CJ Charleston to give VASJ a 42-7 lead at half. Derick Tuesday finished the scoring with a 1-yard plunge in the fourth quarter for the Vikings.
VASJ opens NCL White play on Oct. 3 at Valley Christian School.
