VASJ track teams place fourth at NCL Meet

The Villa Angel-St. Joseph boys and girls track teams each finished fourth in the North Coast League Championships at Padua on May 7.

On the girls side, senior standout Toni Beuck was the winner in the 800M and runner up in the 400M. Alison Sukys and Kynadi Byers both placed in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. The girls 4×200 and 4×100 relays finished in second place. Dena Pullem, Akyla Collins, Lora Stewart and De'Brea Scott all contributed in individual events.

On the boys side, Laron Jones and Tremayne Harvell finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 100M. Jones and Gaston Dowdley both placed in the 200M while senior Malik Lozada was fourth in the 800M and in the long jump after winning the high jump on May 5. Tommy Lombardo was sixth in the mile run. Devontae Glover and Derrick Thuesday added to the team’s performance in the hurdles. The boys 4×800, 4×400 and 4×200 relay teams finished fourth, and the 4×100 team was NCL runner up. The Stauffer brothers – junior Jacob and freshman Adam – combined to place in both the discus and the shot put.

The Vikings are gearing up for the postseason which eventually culminates with the state meet in Columbus in June.
