Vikings compete at Perry Pin City Tournament

The VASJ Vikings came back after a short holiday break and competed well at the Perry Pin City wrestling tournament on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3.

Junior standout Joey Tromba continued his strong season by finishing fourth at 132. Tromba dropped a close match, 3-1, to Ta'Naz Gregory from Erie Cathedral Prep (PA) and placed fourth in the highly competitive weight class that included a state placer that Tromba fell to in the semis. After falling in the semis, Tromba rebounded with a 4-0 win to advance to the third/fourth place match.

Also competing at the Perry Pin City and finishing in 9th place at 195 pounds was Kevin Mullin and Jacob Kozak took 12th at 220. Placements were out of 16 wrestlers.

Other placements for the Vikings: Joe Martin (11th), Malik Calloway (12th), Danny Cervenik (8th), Marcel English (10th).

Martin and Kozak both earned their first career victories at the tournament, each getting the win by pin.

This effort by VASJ came after a solid showing at the D3 Waterloo tournament in late December. Tromba took home the championship at 132, taking 6th at 182 pounds was English and finishing in 4th place at 195 pounds was Mullin.

Other results from the Waterloo D3 Classic: King Seyou finished in 6th at 120, Cervenik finished in 3rd Place at 160 and Joe Trickett was fourth at 170.
