Villa Angela-St. Joseph will have to wait at least another year to take the Axe back from neighborhood rival Euclid.
Vikings senior Marvelle Ross scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, but the Panthers prevailed, 23-13, in the first meeting between the two schools since 2006.
Euclid forced four interceptions and scored 17 unanswered points after an initial touchdown by Ross gave VASJ an early lead in front of a large crowd at Sparky DiBiasio Stadium.
Panthers junior tailback Chris Collins ran for 106 yards and a touchdown.
The Vikings, who scored 54 points in a Week 1 win over Youngstown Liberty, were limited to 28 yards passing by Euclid.
