Ward’s Lawn Care Players of the Week

Listed below are the Ward’s Lawn Care & Landscape Co. Players of the Week for the week ending Sept. 4:

FOOTBALL

Name: Owen Loncar
School: Kirtland
Grade: Senior
Stats: Nine tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, safety, interception, forced fumble, recovered fumble, touchdown on offense
Coach’s Quote: “He’s a great student and great athlete,” said Kirtland coach Tiger LaVerde. “He played smart and tough.”

BOYS SOCCER

Name: Luke Wisniewski
School: Independence
Grade: 11
Stats: Led Independence to three shutouts and posted a 0.80 goals against average
Coach’s Quote: “Converting from midfield to defense, Luke has become a leader and a very important part of our defense,” said Independence coach Ryan MacRaild. “Though not his natural position, he has taken pride in his work helping a group of all new defenders become a cohesive unit after graduating most all of last year’s defensive backs. Luke really has been unselfish this season taking on the challenging role of center back and doing so with great pride and heart. He is becoming a leader from the back, something every great team needs.”

GIRLS SOCCER

Name: Lexi Boyk
School: Berkshire
Grade: 9
Stats: Scored seven goals in two games with three assists in 1 ½ games
Coach’s Quote: “Lexi has had an amazing start to her high school career, along with the Lady Badgers’ record-breaking start,” said Berkshire coach Rick Nerone. “Lexi has come a long way since the first day of preseason. She has developed extremely well as a goal scorer, and more so in her vision on the field to find her teammates for assists. She has kept a level head and keeps working hard every day to improve herself.”
