Cardinal senior Trent Mast pinned his way into the history books on Saturday.
The 132-pounder needed just 4 minutes, 24 seconds to pin all three of his opponents on the way to winning his fourth straight title at the 2016 Russ Ward Memorial Tournament. Mast became just the fourth wrestler to win four titles at the longtime event, which was renamed in 2015 to honor a supporter of the Huskies’ wrestling program who passed away earlier that year.
“As always, Trent’s a performer,” said Cardinal coach Jeff Zeigler. “Winning it a fourth time in a row was definitely a goal for him. He went out and took care of business and pinned everybody.”
Mast, a state alternate in 2016, improved to 6-1 on the year.
For his efforts, he was named one of the Ward’s Lawn Care & Landscape Co. Players of the Week for the week ending Dec. 11, 2016.
