Chagrin Falls drained 14 3-pointers in a 69-29 season-opening win over visiting Brooklyn on Wednesday.
“I’m very pleased with our effort tonight in our first game,” said Chagrin Falls coach Dave Bargar. “You never know what to expect with the first one, but we came out with a lot of energy defensively and had a great night shooting the basketball.”
The Tigers settled in after the first quarter and pulled away from the Hurricanes.
“We really got it going offensively in the second and third quarters,” Bargar said. “I thought we moved the ball exceptionally well and did a great job of executing our stuff. Brad Russell, Jacob Kay, and Spencer Kaas all got going in those quarters, which allowed us to build and extend the lead heading into the fourth quarter.”
Russell finished with a game-high 22 points and drained six 3-pointers to lead the Tigers.
Kay finished with 14 points and five assists, Kaas contributed with 11 points, nine assists, and four rebounds, and Ryan Curtiss scored 11 points with five rebounds.
“I thought Oscar DiFranco coming back from his injury really gave us a spark off the bench. His energy was infectious getting on the floor and creating havoc on the defensive end,” Bargar said.
Draining 14 3-pointers may not happen every night but the Tigers will use their long-range strength to tilt games in their favor.
“One of our strengths is our ability to shoot the three and play with unselfishness,” Bargar said. “I thought tonight it showed what we may be capable of when we move the ball and defend at a high level.”
