Babbitt, Schuster earn CVC Sportsmanship Awards

Hannah Babbitt and Sam Schuster were named Fairport Harding’s 2020 Chagrin Valley Conference Senior Sportsmanship Award winners.

Babbitt earned four letters in both volleyball and softball for the Skippers and she also was a member of the cheer squad.

In addition to recording the 1,000th dig of her career in the fall, Babbitt earned the school’s Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2018 and 2019. She was named second-team All-CVC in volleyball and softball in 2019 and earned honorable mention all-conference honors in 2018.

Babbitt also excels in the classroom.

She earned a CVC Scholar-Athlete Award in 2019 and 2020 while taking College Credit Plus courses at Lakeland Community College. Babbitt is a member of the National Honor Society, the FHS Class President and a Student Ambassador who has committed over 1,000 hours of community service. She was named the Spanish 3 and History Student of the Year.

Schuster earned three varsity letters in football, one in basketball and four in baseball.

He was named second-team All-CVC in baseball following the 2018 and 2019 seasons and first-team All-Lake County in 2018 and 2019. The Lake County Touchdown Club recognized Schuster in 2019 and he was named the Fairport Offensive Player of the Year in 2019 and the Special Teams Player of the Year in 2018. Schuster earned honorable mention All-CVC honors for football in 2018 and 2019.

A member of the National Honor Society, Schuster is a CVC All-Academic honoree and CVC Scholar-Athlete. He is a member of the Dean’s List at Lakeland Community College and was named the Social Studies Student of the Year.

Steve Hare is the Chagrin Valley Conference's Sports Information Director. He also created and publishes, an online publication dedicated to providing hyperlocal coverage to area high school athletic programs. Hare began covering high school sports for the Lake County News Herald in 1997. Hare attended Willoughby South High School through the middle of his senior year, then graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton in 1986. He played football, wrestled and was an all-Geauga county baseball player (1986). He lives in Chardon with his wife Paulette and their children.
