Badgers upset Garfield, set up rematch with rival

BURTON—No. 3 Berkshire defeated No. 2 Garrettsville Garfield in a Division III district semifinal at Berkshire on Wednesday, 25-17, 25-15, 25-12, 25-13.

“Tonight was fun to watch,” Berkshire coach Joni Prots said. “We played very well as a team. I think our strength of schedule down the stretch helped us today. That may be the best we have played all year.”

Madison Chapman led the Badgers with 16 kills and also contributed with 15 digs, six service points and five aces. Julia Kastor added 10 kills, seven blocks, five digs, 10 points and a pair of aces and Olivia Freiling finished with 22 points and eight assists.

Kayla Dingman contributed 13 points and four aces, Mollee Chapman recorded four kills and four points and Marisa Miller pitched in with five points and four digs.

With the win, the Badgers advanced to Saturday’s district championship against rival Cardinal.

Haley Adams is a 2016 graduate of Cardinal High School. She is currently in her third year at Hiram College with a major in Communications and a minor in Writing. Haley, a three-sport standout at Cardinal, has participated in many athletic events at Hiram and plans to become a sports broadcaster.
