CVC Athletes of the Week

Athletes from five different schools have been named the Chagrin Valley Conference Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 11.

Each athlete was nominated by his or her coach. All statistics incurred from Monday, February 12 through Sunday, February 18, 2024.

Here’s a look at each Athlete of the Week by sport:

Noah BarnesName: Noah Barnes
School: Madison
Grade: 12
Stats: Scored 20 points with 12 rebounds and three steals in two games
Coach’s Quote: “Noah was instrumental in two victories this past week,” said Madison coach Nick Gustin. “He controlled both the offensive and defensive glass to go along his rebounding and scoring efforts. Noah also took four charges in the two games.”

Matty JirmasekName: Matty Jirmasek
School: Independence
Grade: 10
Stats: Scored six points with six assists, and three steals
Coach’s Quote: “Matty continues to show why he is one of the best sophomores in the area,” said Independence coach Marc Holliday. “His stats don’t always reflect the impact he has on a game. His court vision and ability to make plays for his teammates is a special skill set. Moreover, his quick feet, anticipation, and tenacity on defense help to make us a difficult team to score on.”

Chance LoomisName: Chance Loomis
School: Conneaut
Grade: Scored 68 points with 18 rebounds, and 13 assists in two games
Coach’s Quote: “Chance is our team leader on and off the floor,” said Conneaut coach Rich Marshall. “In addition to his scoring ability, Chance’s ball handling and passing skills make him a threat every time he has the basketball. Chance is also our team’s leading rebounder.”

Braylan McClardyName: Braylan McClardy
School: Cuyahoga Heights
Grade: 12
Stats: Scored 31 points, including the 1,000th point of his career, with 17 rebounds, 11 assists, and five steals
Coach’s Quote: “Braylan is the definition of a student-athlete,” said Cuyahoga Heights coach Michael Tartara. “He leads his team with a great attitude and effort each day.”

Meredith BorsName: Meredith Bors
School: Berkshire
Grade: 11
Stats: Scored six points with three rebounds, two steals, and one assist
Coach’s Quote: “Meredith has come on as a shooter this year that teams have to be aware of where she is at,” said Berkshire coach James Bosley. “It helps open up the inside for her teammates and has helped the team have more success. She has gotten better at the defensive side all season long and is becoming a really strong two-way player for us.”
