CVC Basketball Roundup: Crestwood tops Rootstown

This edition of the CVC Basketball Roundup tips off with Crestwood’s “upset” over visiting Rootstown on Tuesday.

Rootstown entered the game 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division, while Crestwood dropped its first two games of the season before putting together a two-game winning streak heading into the game with the Rovers.

Rootstown led 33-23 at halftime, but the Red Devils outscored the Rovers in the second half, 21-4. Crestwood outscored Rootstown in the fourth quarter, 15-0.

Crestwood’s Reese Harper led all scorers with 23 points while Maddie Gonczy added 8, Liv Martini contributed with seven, Ava Lincoln scored four, and Piper Siebold pitched in with two points.

Edgewood 50, Geneva 37

The Warriors led 22-15 at halftime, then extended their advantage to 37-24 heading into the fourth quarter.

Independence 54, Beachwood 44

Independence outscored Beachwood in the second quarter, 18-3, and never looked back in claiming a road win over the Bison, despite a monster game from Beachwood’s Zoe Walters, who led all scorers with 35 points.

Independence, though, had balance—Lucy Spencer scored 17, Emily Gibbons added 15, and Lila Manfredonia also scored in double figures with 13. Allie Bohrer scored eight points, and Leah Creel pitched in with two.

Beachwood supplemented Walters’ outburst with four points from Alison Stephens, three from Journei Casson, and two from Avery Mercer.
