CVC Swimming State Qualifiers

Hawken’s boys’ and girls’ teams headline a large contingent of Chagrin Valley Conference swimmers and divers headed to the state meet.

The Hawks swept the team titles at the Division II SPIRE District meet with the boys’ winning their division with 406 points and the girls scoring 522.

Hawken’s individual district champions included Angus Williams (diving), Will Deitz (200-yard freestyle), Alex Podrez (200-yard individual medley), Michael Butler (500-yard freestyle), Jess Eden (220-yard individual medley, 100-yard backstroke), and Sydney Bare (100-yard breaststroke).

The Hawks also won district titles in several relays including the boys’ 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle, and the girls’ 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.

Other district champions from the CVC included Chagrin Falls’ boys’ 200-yard medley relay as well as Chagrin Falls’ Samantha Holtz (diving) and Kirtland’s Kaley Ream (100-yard butterfly).

Steve Hare is the Chagrin Valley Conference's Sports Information Director. He also created and publishes OhioVarsity.com, an online publication dedicated to providing hyperlocal coverage to area high school athletic programs. Hare began covering high school sports for the Lake County News Herald in 1997. Hare attended Willoughby South High School through the middle of his senior year, then graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton in 1986. He played football, wrestled and was an all-Geauga county baseball player (1986). He lives in Chardon with his wife Paulette and their children.
