Fortkamp, Blue Devils top Cardinal

WICKLIFFE–Chase Fortkamp ran for 209 yards and two scores to lead Wickliffe to a 36-3 win over visiting Cardinal on Friday.

Fortkamp opened the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run and Evan Rypinski added the two-point conversion to give the Blue Devils an 8-0 lead with 10:41 left in the first quarter. Rypinski added a two-yard scoring run 10 minutes later and a one-yard touchdown run with 4:18 left in the first half to push the Wickliffe lead to 24-0.

Cardinal used a 24-yard field goal from Maclain Robinson to cut the Wickliffe lead to 24-3 with 8:24 left in the third quarter but Fortkamp responded with a 53-yard touchdown run and Isaiah Bolon closed out the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown late in the game.

Mason Bala carried eight times for 71 yards and Rypinski rushed for 64 yards and threw for another 53 for the Blue Devils, who closed out the year with a 6-4 record.

Ethan Detweiler led Cardinal’s ground game with 79 yards on 18 carries and Joey Soltis threw for 90 yards. The Huskies finished the year 4-6.
