Geneva closed out the first day of the 55th Annual Kenston Invitational Tournament in a first-place tie with Rootstown.
The Eagles and Rovers both ended the day with 94 points while the Eagles have nine wrestlers remaining including four in Saturday’s semifinals round.
Advancing to the semifinals for Geneva were Johnny Wayslaw (132), Jesse McElroy (138), Brandon Thomas (195) and Charles Taylor (220). Dustin Sweeney (113), Brett Goff (145), Caleb Selman (152), Cole Vennis (170) and John Amato (182) each need at least one more win to earn a spot in the top eight.
Other Chagrin Valley Conference wrestlers who advanced to the semifinals included Kirtland’s Will Davidson (106) and Jeff Kusar (285), Orange’s Yury Pozdneev (126), Lakeside’s Ethan Wannett (126) and Jacob Lagoa (170), Beachwood’s Elijah Durham-Harris (195) and West Geauga’s Tyler Moriarty (220) and Lou Alesnik (285).
