Harvey’s JT Basco inches near school record

BURTON—Harvey sophomore JT Basco ran a career-best 16:26 to finish in sixth place at the 2018 Berkshire Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.

The new personal record also left Basco just 26 seconds away from Harvey’s school record with over two full seasons left to beat the mark set by Perry Griffith in 1999.

“JT ran well,” said Harvey coach Torrez Edwards. “His timing and patience are getting better. He knows when it’s time to take his race to the next level. JT’s goal this year is to win the conference meet and make it to states. JT and I are patient with breaking records because we both understand he will run faster as he grows as.”

Basco, a second-year runner, finished just 30 seconds behind Highland senior Vince Manning, the winner of the Berkshire Invitational.
