Hawks roll to win at Badger Invitational

CHARDON—Led by medalist Jack Gole and second place finisher Tommy Hill, Hawken rolled to the team title at the Berkshire Badger Invitational on Tuesday at Pleasant Hills Golf Course.

The tournament win was the third for the Hawks this season as they already claimed titles at the Chagrin Valley Conference preseason tournament and the Trinity Invitational.

“The kids are playing really well right now,” said Hawken coach Bert Kovarik. “They worked hard all summer and I’ve got four guys who are really dedicated golfers. They’ve improved their games tremendously.”

Gole claimed medalist honors with a tournament-low 74 on the Par 70 course. Hill finished behind his teammate with a 77. Drew Covitt tied for sixth with an 81 and Copper Bryan tied for 13th with an 86 to round out the scoring for the Hawks, who finished with a total of 318 strokes.

Future CVC member Lutheran West finished in second place, eight strokes behind the Hawks and Kirtland was third with a 350. Independence was fourth (362), Garrettsville Garfield was fifth (380), Geneva was sixth (396), Berkshire finished seventh (402) and Wickliffe was eighth (427).

Berkshire’s Forrest Kuchling carded a 78 to finish third overall while Lutheran West’s Sam Spacek and Jakob Gross both finished tied for fourth with a 79.
