Hornets avenge loss to Brush

Last fall, Brush came back from a two-game deficit to beat Kirtland, 3-2.

That loss didn’t sit well with the Hornets and on Monday they got their revenge in beating the Arcs at Brush, 3-2.

“Brush beat us last year in five so it was nice to come back this year and beat a Division I team in three,” said Kirtland coach Bob Schenosky. “That’s our second win against a D1 squad this year.”

Kirtland cruised to wins of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-13.

Anna Skrbis led the Hornets with nine kills and also contributed with three service aces and five digs. Krista Robejsek pitched in with five kills, six blocks and four aces and Anna Shuppe recorded four aces, seven assists and two blocks.

Elise Frazee posted a team-high 10 digs and Nicole Aveni finished with nine aces and seven digs.

“The team continues to push forward with solid net play and the back row played excellent defense,” Schenosky said.

Kirtland improved to 12-4 on the year. The Hornets host Fairport Harding on Tuesday.
