Hornets overwhelm Crusaders

CHESTERLAND—Mason Sullivan recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff and Joey Torok ran for a nine-yard touchdown on the next play to set the tone in Kirtland’s 59-0 rout of visiting Steubenville Catholic Central in a Division VI regional quarterfinal on Friday at West Geauga High School.

Torok ran for 132 yards on just six carries and scored three touchdowns in the rout.

Tommy Powers completed 5-of-6 passes for 123 yards and threw for a touchdown and he also ran for 56 yards and two scores for the Hornets. Sullivan caught three passes for 52 yards.

Kirtland outgained the Crusaders 435-93.

The Hornets, who improved to 11-0, advanced to play Creston Norwayne (10-1) in a regional semifinal on Nov. 9 at a site to be determined.
