Kirtland rebounded from Thursday’s loss to West Geauga with an impressive 5-0 sweep of Perry on Thursday.
The Hornets improved to 2-1 in the Chagrin Valley Conference.
“It was a great day for Kirtland tennis,” said coach Bob Lasecki. “Coach Harvey and I are really excited about the way the team responded after a loss yesterday. They enjoy the game and like to compete.”
Kyle Lutz was bumped up to first singles and responded with a 6-3, 6-3 win to improve to 2-1 on the year.
Justin Aranavage lost his first set at second singles then went on to win 2-1, thanks to a 6-2 win in the second set and a 10-6 victory in the tiebreaker. Octavian Dunca cruised to a win in third singles.
“We moved Kyle to first singles because he has been playing really well and responded with his first win at the one spot,” Lasecki said. “There were big wins for everybody, especially for Justin and Octavian. Justin came back to tie it up at one set each then won it in tiebreakers for the win at second singles and Octavian was a last minute addition at third singles and did not disappoint with a win.”
Mike Schnur and Alex Weaver won at first doubles, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, and Nathan Cardon and Reid Friedenberg picked up a forfeit at second doubles.
