Hornets tame the Huskies


KIRTLAND—Kirtland scored 24 first-quarter points on the way to a dominating 73-42 win over visiting Cardinal on Tuesday.

Zach Samsa led the Hornets with 14 points and Julian Davis and Gage Sullivan also scored in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.

The Hornets, who improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division, jumped out to a 24-6 lead and extended that advantage to 37-12 at halftime.

Nick Vernon scored all eight of his points in the second half and Jonathan Ridgeway and Gage DiFabio both drained a pair of 3-pointers to finish with six points each.

Hunter Schaeffer led the Huskies with 15 points on five 3-pointers. Jake Bean and Justin Detweiler contributed with 11 points each.
